Gris-peg Description
GRISEOFULVIN - ORAL (GRISS-ee-oh-FULL-vin)

Common Gris-peg Brand Name(s)
Fulvicin, Grifulvin V, Gris-Peg, Grisactin

Gris-peg Side Effects
You may experience a headache when first taking griseofulvin. It should disappear during treatment. You may also notice diarrhea, nausea, gas, vomiting, fatigue, dizziness or insomnia as your body adjusts to the medication. If these symptoms persist or get worse, contact your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop: skin rash, hives, itching, increased sensitivity to sunlight, yellowing of eyes or skin, fever, soreness of the mouth/tongue/throat. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

How To Use Gris-peg
GRIS-PEG: Take as directed by your doctor. It is best taken with a fatty meal. It may take from several days to several months to complete treatment. This depends upon the type and location of the infection. Continue to take GRIS-PEG until the full prescribed amount is finished even if symptoms disappear after a few days. Stopping the medication too early may allow the infection to continue, resulting in a return of the infection. Shake the liquid form well.

Gris-peg Uses
GRIS-PEG is used to treat fungal infections of the skin, hair, fingernails and toenails.

Gris-peg Precautions
Avoid alcoholic beverages while you are taking this drug unless your doctor gives permission. Drinking alcohol during treatment with GRIS-PEG could result in a rapid heart rate and flushing of the skin. GRIS-PEG should be used cautiously during pregnancy only if clearly needed. It is not known if GRIS-PEG appears in breast milk. Consult with your doctor before breast-feeding. Griseofulvin may increase your sensitivity to sunlight. Wear protective clothing and an appropriate sunscreen. Avoid sunlamps.

Gris-peg Drug Interactions
Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription drugs you may use, especially of: "blood thinners" (e.g., heparin, warfarin). GRIS-PEG may interfere with the effectiveness of birth control pills. Discuss using other methods of birth control with your doctor. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

Gris-peg Overdose
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

Gris-peg Notes
GRIS-PEG is prescribed for your current condition only. Do not use it for another infection or share it with someone else. Another infection later on may require a different medicine.

Missed Gris-peg Dose
If you miss a dose, take as soon as remembered; do not take if it is almost time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
