How To Use This Medicine
Use this medicine exactly as directed on the label, unless instructed differently by your doctor
* A reduced-calorie DIET and increased physical activity are usually part of the treatment regimen. Follow prescribed diet and
exercise programs.
* Patients must receive full and complete instructions about the nature of DIABETES and learn to self-monitor blood glucose.
* Take this medicine WITH MEALS. You may take immediately before or immediately after meals.
* Use this medicine for the full prescribed treatment period. DO NOT skip doses or discontinue unless directed by your doctor.
* Swallow whole, unless otherwise directed by your physician. DO NOT crush or chew sustained release preparations.
What To Do If You Miss A Dose
Take when remembered unless time for next dose. No double doses.
How To Store This Medicine
Keep in original closed container in a dark, cool, and dry place away from children. Discard unneeded medicine.
Call Your Doctor Immediately If You Experience
Vomiting; Diarrhea; Sleepiness; Feeling of general discomfort; Muscle fatigue.
Other Side Effects
Gas; Decreased appetite; Bloating; Nausea; Anemia; Change in taste.
If symptoms are mild but do not go away or are bothersome, check with your doctor. IF ANY OF THE ABOVE SIDE EFFECTS IS SEVERE,
CALL YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY.
Precautions And Warnings
* There are no adequate or well-controlled safety studies in pregnant women. NOTIFY YOUR DOCTOR IF PREGNANT or intend to become
pregnant.
* Notify physician IMMEDIATELY of symptoms of LACTIC ACIDOSIS (malaise, muscle pain, respiratory distress, increased
sleepiness, & abdominal distress).
* LACTIC ACIDOSIS is a medical EMERGENCY that must be treated in a hospital setting. STOP taking the drug and seek emergency
treatment immediately.
* AVOID concurrent use of alcohol.
* Patients should wear identification tags (Medic-Alert) so appropriate treatment can be given if complications occur away from
home.
* Self-monitor blood glucose. Test urine for glucose and ketones as prescribed. Have glycosylated hemoglobin tested regularly.
* Treat mild episodes of HYPOGLYCEMIA (weakness, nervousness, confusion, headache, nausea, dizziness, rapid respiration) with
oral glucose.
* Treat severe episodes of HYPOGLYCEMIA (coma, seizure or neurologic impairement) with glucagon IM/SC injection or concentrated
IV glucose.
* Strict adherence to personal hygiene, avoidance of infection & foot care are essential. See your dentist twice a year & an
ophthalmologist regularly.
* Because of INTERACTION with other drugs, report the use of any other prescription and nonprescription medicines to your
doctor.
* The results of some MEDICAL or LAB tests may be affected by this medicine. Inform the doctor in charge that you are taking
this medicine.
